A not-for-profit organisation passionate about Italian opera and committed to ensuring its vibrant future in Australia. For over 16 years, we’ve engaged and supported the development of young operatic talent in Australia through our scholarship program.
In the past we have made it possible for thirteen young Australian operatic singers to maximise their potential and accelerate their professional development at Centres of Excellence for Operatic Study and Performance across Italy.
The Foundation was established in Sydney in 2007, which had operated for many years in the past as the Italian Opera Award committee, under the guidance of Opera Foundation Australia.
The purpose of creating The Italian Opera Foundation Australia Ltd was twofold:
- To facilitate the building of an adequate capital base to ensure the sustainability of our organisation.
- To provide our Board with a greater level of autonomy and independence in carrying out our mission.
The Foundation enjoys the patronage of the Italian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Pier Francesco Zazo and founder Nick Scali. Honorary Patrons are the Australian Ambassador to Italy, and Italian Consulate General, Sydney, Sergio Martes, Phillip Isaacs, and Carla Zampatti.
Members range from community, artistic and business leaders throughout Australia, passionate young people, many philanthropic and, naturally, opera enthusiasts.
IOFA (Italian Opera Foundation Australia) conducts a number of varied and enjoyable fund raising events each year and welcomes new members to the Foundation. Please read through the membership section for details.
