Alfredo Bovier

Alfredo Bovier came to Australia in 1981 from Naples, Italy.

During his time in Italy , Alfredo worked as a collaborator in an Italian free to air radio station concentrating on an opera based programme where he was able to travel and interview many popular opera performers such as the great Maria Callas, Franco Corelli, Mario del Monaco to name a few.

After coming to Australia, Alfredo opened a restaurant in Darlinghurst, where he combined his passion for Italian cuisine and Opera and start to serve a dinner with an operatic performance.

In 1994 he opened his second restaurant in Bulletin Place (Circular Quay) and presented for the first time, a full Opera in the restaurant. Then he has conducted various ‘Opera in the Lane’.

In 1996, after being invited to participate in the Sydney Festival, produced a version of ‘Carmen under the stars.’

In the years to follow Alfredo continue to be a finalist each year in the “Entertainment Restaurant of the year “Awards.

Alfredo is the recipient of a Knighthood ‘Cavaliere of the Italian Republic’ in 1999; and in 2009 received ‘The Medal of the Order of Australia’, for his promotion of Italian culture as well as to charitable and arts organisations.

Alfredo has many awards for his continued contribution to both the Hospitality Industry and the Opera.

He is a founding member of the Italian Opera Foundation Australia.
