About Us

The Italian Opera Foundation Australia Limited was established in Sydney in 2007. The Foundation enjoys the patronage of the Italian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Pier Francesco Zazo and founder Nick Scali. Honorary Patrons are the Australian Ambassador to Italy, and Italian Consulate General, Sydney, Sergio Martes, Phillip Isaacs, and Carla Zampatti.

Prior to the establishment of the Foundation, we had operated for many years as the Italian Opera Award Committee under the auspices of Opera Foundation Australia and with the purpose of providing funds for a scholarship in Italy.

A not-for-profit organisation passionate about Italian opera and committed to ensuring its vibrant future in Australia. Over the years we have engaged and supported the development of young operatic talent in Australia through our scholarship program. In the past we have made it possible for 15 young Australian operatic singers to maximise their potential and accelerate their professional development at Centres of Excellence for Operatic Study and Performance across Italy.

Members range from community, artistic and business leaders throughout Australia, passionate young people, many philanthropic and, naturally, opera enthusiasts.

IOFA (Italian Opera Foundation Australia) conducts several varied and enjoyable fund-raising events and welcomes new members to the Foundation. Please read through the membership section for details.
